RAWA Sends 21 Afghan Children for Treatment in the USA

The 21 children were sent to the USA by RAWA for treatment

Revolutionary Association of the Women of Afghanistan (RAWA) sent a group of 21 ill Afghan children to the USA for treatment.

These children are aged between 6 and 12 years and include 7 boys and 14 girls. They have illnesses such as heart diseases, disability, burn effects, deafness and others.

The program for the treatment of Afghan children was started in 2007 with the help of an American NGO called Lake Norman Children’s Relief (LNCR). In 2007 RAWA sent 8 children for treatment and this year the number was increased to 21 children.

The costs of the journey and treatment are covered by LNCR and during their stay in the US each child lives with a family that has volunteered to take care of them. Other than the children two RAWA members have accompanied the group as translators and guides.

The treatment of these children may take around two months and the children who require surgery may stay for a longer time.
