Russia offers military support to Afghan opposition

ISLAMABAD (NNI): Russia Sunday did not rule out the possibility of military support to Rabbani led Afghan opposition.

The head of the Russian Security Council Sergie Ivanov said that Ahmed Shah Masood is the member of the legitimate government in Afghanistan and it is the duty of every country to assist the legitimate Afghan government, reports BBC.

The head of the Russian Security Council said that Moscow cannot rule out possibility of attacks on what, he put, terrorist bases, in Afghanistan if the situation worsens, aggression is made and the thieves escalate their activities.

Addressing security committees meeting of Russia, Belarus, Armenia, Kyrgyzistan, Kazakhstan and Tajikistan in Dushanbe, Sergie Ivanov said that their objective is to check international terrorism. The meeting discussed the issues of drugs and prevention of illegal immigrants.

The head of the Kyrgyz Security Council alleged that he has information that a number of terrorists in Afghanistan and Pakistan are preparing for attacks in Central Asia particularly Kyrgyzistan and Tajikistan and are trying to disrupt peace in Central Asia. He said that the information shows that the looters have not yet abandoned implementing their plans.
