Afghan refugees eating grass, freezing temperature kills many children

Jan. 16, 2001: Thousands of new refugees arrived in Pakistan during the past few months due to fundamentalists' infighting and severe drought. They came from Baghlan, Takhar and Kundaz provinces of Afghanistan.

Cold, disease and malnutrition threaten the lives of thousands of Afghan refugees pouring into Pakistan, some of whom had been reduced to eating grass. They are living in an open place without proper shelter, water or food.                    More...
