Life under the rule of Taliban in Mazar-e-Sharif
This woman's husband was killed by criminals of Hezb-e-Islami (Islamic Party) of Gulbudin Hekmatiar after the Islamic groups took power in 1992. Soon after the murder, the woman's son left home to seek revenge. But his bloody body was later found and brought home to his mother by strangers.

This widow has three children and sells a local bread (called "nan") to make a living and to save her family from starvation. Her daughter has also lost a husband and struggles to feed her own three children. This mother, while crying, says her son lost a leg to a mine explosion, and he and his children live with her in the Ali Choopan district of Mazar-e-Sharif.
