RAWA's Aid to Maslakh and Shaedaia Camps
in Herat
On Feb.19, 2002 once again RAWA distributed foodstuff among displaced people in two biggest camps (Maslakh and Shaedaia) in Heart province in west of Afghanistan. Tens of thousands of drought and war-stricken people from Herat, Farah, Ghor, Badghis and other provinces of Afghanistan have left their villages and are living in these camps in a disastrous situation. Majority of children are facing diseases affiliated with malnutrition and many die of hunger everyday. Even people have been reduced to eating animal feed in different camps. Visiting the camp, RAWA members also interviewed some women who had terrible stories of their miseries and desperate conditions. A BBC crew filmed the food distribution and interviewed RAWA activists.
