Mashal-e-Democracy Weekly Stops Publication for Insecurity

A Kabul-based weekly has stopped publication due to insecurity in Afghanistan.

Mashal-e Demokrasi (Torch of democracy) is the name of the weekly which has wound up its activity after two years of publication. Fazol Rahman (the editor-in-chief of the weekly) said that the reason for the discontinuation of his work was threats by the authorities and the lack of security for journalists. He said that a number of individuals had threatened the weekly's personnel from time to time.

Information and Culture Minister Dr Sayd Makhdum Rahin said that he did not know about the closure of the weekly and added that the ministry would investigate their problems if journalists and reporters let the ministry know about them.
