RAWA asks Pakistan to withdraw Taliban recognition

The Frontier Post, Frebruary 29, 2000

PESHAWAR - The Revolutionary Association of the Women of Afghanistan (RAWA) has welcomed the government proposal to close down the various offices of the Afghan Mujahideen in Pakistan. According to a press release issued here on Monday, the RAWA said that they had been terming all Afghan fundamentalist parties as criminal, and treacherous, and without any footing among the masses. From Gulbadin to Rabbani, from Sayyaf to Khalili, all were the sworn enemies of the Afghan nation whose hands were stained with the blood of some of the best sons of the soil. If the government of Pakistan wanted to do a favour to the Afghan nation, it must not only close down the infamous offices but put the criminals on trial as they had committed most heinous crimes in Peshawar, Quetta and other parts of Pakistan.

The documents of the cases of murder, torture and kidnapping filed against these terrorists and drug-barons, were there with the concerned authorities of Pakistan such as the ISI and Afghan commissionerate, RAWA added. Although the Taliban did not get the opportunity to engage in terrorist acts as their Jehadi brothers did, there was no difference between the two. The RAWA claimed that the Taliban had imprisoned their people, especially women, in the name of Islam and Shariah under the shadow of guns. It said that the government of Pakistan should not only close down their offices but it should also end their recognition. The RAWA would welcome Pakistan's decision to declare the recognition of the Taliban regime as null and void. The RAWA further observed that the representatives of the Dostum party also deserved to be brought to justice.

However, it said that Pakistan should differentiate between the murderous groups and non-fundamentalist parties. It would be a step in the right direction if Pakistan investigated against Sibghatullah Mujaddidi in connection with the US $ ten millions he got from Nawaz Sharif. It was an amount from the Pakistani tax payers for the people of Afghanistan. The Pakistan government should probe into the matter and discover as to where the money went. It was said that Mujadidi had distributed the amount among his family members. The RAWA further said that Pakistan should strengthen its friendship with the people of Afghanistan and not with the medieval-minded murderers.
