In addition to United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan, many public figures at the ministerial level participated as guests of honor, especially during the first two weeks of the session.

Along with a number of other NGOs, Revolutionary Association of the Women of Afghanistan (RAWA) was invited to participate and Sahar Saba represented RAWA at the session from 28 March to 16 April. During the session she had the chance to talk on several items including Right to Development, Question of the Violation of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms in Any Part of the World and Interrogation of the Human Rights of Women and the Gender Perspective, which were well received by the other participants.

In addition to attending this very important session, Sahar also used this opportunity to discuss the issue of the ongoing violations of Afghan human rights, particularly women's rights, with a large number of NGO representatives, governmental officials, journalists and other interested people. Many of them expressed their grave concern over the violations of human rights by Jehadi and Taliban fundamentalists in Afghanistan and their support and help to the Afghan women and to RAWA.

A number of NGOs and individuals also condemned the atrocities committed against the people and women of Afghanistan and showed their sympathy and solidarity with the Afghan people.
